Celtic Band

October 20th, 2005

I’ve been trying to locate information about this Celtic band that I have some music from. I don’t know where it came from but I’ve had it for years. The tape it was on has been eaten several times and I even had to tape it back together with scotch tape once. I managed to get it converted into MP3 though so I’m putting all of the tracks up here on my site. The MP3s certainly aren’t the greatest quality due to the state of the tape when I converted them so just keep that in mind.

The band is introduced in the first song as The Celtic Folk but that hasn’t led me to anything useful. If by chance you know this band and can direct me to them please email me diyab !AT! diyab dot net. If not at least maybe it’ll spread some good music.

Drop My Rights

August 19th, 2005

So apparently Microsoft does understand the idea of least priviledge they just don’t enforce/recommend it. Anywho, one of their security people wrote a little utility called “Drop My Rights” that you can use to drop privs when you run an app. It’s basically a little wrapper that drops admin privs and then runs the program you pass it. Very kewl! Check it out here.

Vista first impressions

August 14th, 2005

So I finally get to look at Beta 1 of Windows Vista and find it had some amazing similarities to os X. Now I’ll admit I only spent about 15-20 minutes looking through it but here are the two biggest things I could find. First is the similarities between Windows explorer and Finder. (Click Here) Second is that Windows now contains a /boot directory similar to Linux/OS X as well as a /users directory similar to OS X. (Click Here)

There are some other new things which are kewl. The new program section of the start menu is interesting and aero definetly kicks ass. Hopefully I’ll find more things of interest when I get time to look at it.
